Artist Talks

I’ve made a point to go to art history and academic talks earlier in the year, but I’ve been increasingly drawn to artist’s talks. These often draw from ideas of materiality connected tangentially to various concepts. Given my interest in perceptions of light and dark, bodies, and referentiality, it makes sense I made a point to see these artists.


Diemut Strebe with her diamond covered in carbon nanotubes to make it matte black–and seemingly worthless. This was on display at the New York Stock Exchange.


Howardena Pindell at her exhibition Autobiography at the Garth Greenan Gallery.



Janine Antoni talking about her exhibition at the Greenwood Cemetery with death educator Amy Cunningham. We repeated gestures and affirmations that she would perform in the catacombs and drank tea she made from trees in the cemetery.
