An Illustrated Manikin

While scrolling through Atlas Obscura’s book, An Explorer’s Guide to the World’s Hidden Wonders, I noticed this beautiful little illustration. Though the text to it discusses other objects in the collection (including a wax model with visible intestines) as well as Ignaz Semmelweis’s important work on making obstetrics safer for women, it does not mention that this is an illustration of one of two ivory manikins in the museum.

The first image is from the Atlas Obscura book. The second is from the book Pictures from the History of Medicine: The Semmelweis Historical Museum (1973).
